dc.description.abstract The purpose of the study was to establish home environmental factors affecting both girls and boys in day secondary schools in an attempt to achieve academic excellence. The research designs used in the study were descriptive survey and ex-post-facto designs. The population consisted of five head teachers, 140 form-four teachers and 609 form-four students. The sample size was as follows; all the five head teachers, 46 form-four teachers and 201 students, which is 33% of the population for both the teachers and the students. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics such as linear multiple regression and factor analysis. The main problems faced by the day students were staying long distances from school, many domestic chores at home, lack of family or parental support towards academic excellence and low family socio-economic status. en_US
