Review of current state of knowledge of microcystin and its impacts on fish in Lake Victoria
(Lakes and reserviors, science, policy and management for sustainable use, 2020-07-03)
Microcystins are part of algal toxins produced intracellularly within algal cells, being in the family of hepatotoxic cyclic peptides from various species of blue‐green algae. Blue‐green algae are widely abundant in many ...
Rheological Properties of Blends of Isotactic Polystyrene–Isotactic Poly(para-methylstyrene) Films Derived from a Comparative Dewetting Study
(American Chemical Society, 2020)
We examined changes in rheological properties of nonequilibrated spin-coated thin films of isotactic polystyrene (iPS) and isotactic poly(para-methylstyrene) and blends thereof by dewetting experiments. For 200 nm thick ...
α-Amylase and α-glucosidase inhibitors from Zanthoxylum chalybeum Engl. root bark
(Elsevier, 2020-10-01)
A systematic analysis of the root bark of Zanthoxylum chalybeum was conducted to establish the antidiabetic potential of isolated compounds based on its ethnomedicinal use to manage diabetes. Chromatographic separation of ...
Moderating Effect of Tourism Bnetworks on Tbackward Linkage with Local Micro and Small Enterprises in Kisumu County.
(Sinop University, 2020)
The study aimed to establish whether the effect of physical location and type of tourism enterprises, on extent of tourism backward linkage with local enterprises in Kisumu County was moderated by business networks established ...
: Spray Pyrolysis Technique (SPT) was used to deposit thin films (TFs) of cadmium stannate, doped with iron (Fe) for the first time. The precursor solutions that were used wereprepared at a concentration of 0.1M, doped with Feand then sprayed onto the pre-heated glass slides immediately at deposition temperatures of 350 ± 7°C, 400 ± 7°C and 450 ± 7°C. The optical properties of the deposited Fe-doped TFs were studied in the wavelength range of 300-1100nm. The X-Ray diffraction (XRD) studies showed that the TFs were orthorhombic with growth orientation along the (2 0 0) direction. Film thickness of 85 ± 10 nm was obtained. It was found out that anincrease in the deposition temperature increased transmittance and band gap, but decreased absorption coefficient, extinction coefficient and refractive index, which was attributed to the improvement in crystallinity of the deposited TFs. Doping reduced transmittance and band gap, but increased refractive index, absorption coefficient and extinction coefficient, which was attributed to the increase in free carriers. (Elsevier, 2020)
The elastic properties of the orthorhombic cadmium stannate (Cd2SnO4) were investigated using density functional theory, applying both energy-strain relationship (which is found in the literature) and stress-strain ...
Sources, distribution, and risk assessment of organochlorine pesticides in Nairobi City, Kenya
(Elsevier, 2020-01-10)
The distribution and sources of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) in air and surface waters were monitored in Nairobi City using triolein-filled semipermeable membrane devices (SPMDs). The SPMDs were extracted by dialysis ...
Stocking density induced stress on plasma cortisol and whole blood glucose concentration in Nile Tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus) of Lake Victoria, Kenya
(Hindawi, 2020)
Effects of high stocking densities (HSDs) were evaluated for Nile tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus) under culture to determine its
influence on plasma cortisol and whole blood glucose concentration. Plasma cortisol ...
Antibiotic Resistance of Escherichia coli from Humans and Black Rhinoceroses in Kenya
(Springer US, 2020)
Upsurge of antibiotic resistance in wildlife poses unprecedented threat to wildlife conservation. Surveillance of antibiotic resistance at the human-wildlife interface is therefore needed. We evaluated differences in ...
Controlling the reactivity of [Pd(II)(N^N^N)Cl]+ complexes using 2,6-bis(pyrazol-2-yl)pyridine ligands for biological application: Substitution reactivity, CT-DNA interactions and in vitro cytotoxicity study
(Elsevier, 2020)
Four [(N^N^N)Pd(II)Cl]+ complexes [chloride-(2,2′:6′,2′′-terpyridine)Pd(II)]Cl (PdL1), [chlorido(2,6-bis(N-pyrazol-2-yl)pyridine)Pd(II)]Cl (PdL2), [chlorido(2,6-bis(3,5-dimethyl-N-pyrazol-2-yl)pyridine)Pd(II)]Cl (PdL3) and ...
